Un peu d'histoire
Propriété du Kraft Sports Group, le Revolution fait partie des dix clubs originels choisis pour former la MLS lors du lancement du nouveau championnat en 1996. Comme la plupart des autres clubs fondateurs de la MLS, le Revolution a été précédé par un ancêtre dans la NASL, les Boston Minutemen (1974-1976), qui accueillirent dans leurs rangs la légende du soccer Shep Messing et "la perle noire" Eusebio.
Le stade
Le Revolution évolue au Gillette Stadium, stade situé à Foxborough, à une trentaine de kilomètres de Boston. Le stade est la propriété de Robert Kraft, qui détient également les New England Patriots (NFL), avec lesquels le New England Revolution partage l'utilisation du stade, dont la capacité de 68 000 places est limitée à 22 000 en configuration soccer. Cette situation fait du Revolution l'un des derniers clubs de MLS à ne pas jouer dans un SSS (soccer specific stadium), et signifie aussi que lors des derniers mois de la saison, le Revolution et ses adversaires doivent s’accommoder du tracé des lignes de football américain sur l'aire de jeu. Des projets de SSS ont été envisagés pour que le Revolution évolue dans une enceinte à dimension plus adaptée à la MLS et aussi plus proche de Boston. Mais la situation évolue lentement, en raison notamment de l'hésitation de Bob Kraft d'investir encore plus dans le peu rentable Revolution, alors que les Patriots et leurs succès à répétition en NFL font les beaux jours de ses finances.
Les grands joueurs
Le plus grand joueur passé par les rangs du Revolution est incontestablement Clint Dempsey, qui anima l'attaque entre 2004 et 2006 et y inscrivit 25 buts, un total plus qu'honorable pour un joueur de 21 lors de ses débuts. Il partit à Fulham pour 4 millions de dollars, à l'époque la plus grosse somme récoltée par la MLS pour un transfert. Dans la légende du Revolution s'inscrit un autre attaquant, Taylor Twellman (2002-2010), auteur de 101 buts avec le club mais qui dut prématurément mettre un terme à sa carrière en 2010 en raison des séquelles d'un traumatisme crânien subi en 2008 qui lui porta un coup fatal. Les fans des Revs vouent un grand respect au défenseur Jay Heaps, capitaine de longue date de l'équipe où il évolua entre 2001 et 2009, à Steve Ralston, milieu offensif qui fit les beaux jours de l'équipe entre 2002 et 2010 et à Jeff Larentowicz (2005-2010), aujourd'hui aux Rapids. Shalrie Joseph et Matt Reis, au club depuis 2003, sont sans nul doute voués au même statut. Enfin, il faut citer le passage de courte durée aux Revs des internationaux américains Alexis Lalas, qui revint d'Italie pour les Revs en 1996, Joe-Max Moore, John Harkes, ou encore de l'Italien Walter Zenga.
Le palmarès
Les six premières saisons des Revs en MLS furent moyennes, mais la roue tourna entre 2002 et 2007, où ils participèrent à quatre reprises aux playoffs de la MLS Cup et deux fois à la finale de la Conférence Est. Malheureusement pour eux, les Revs furent défaits à chaque fois, et n'eurent pour lot de consolation qu'une Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup en 2007 et une Superliga en 2008.
Bon à savoir
L'équipe des Revs, au cours d'un vol régulier vers Los Angeles en juillet 2008, fut mise à contribution pour neutraliser un passager s'étant dénudé et qui tentait d'ouvrir les portes de l'appareil en plein vol. Le groupe de supporters des Revs, les "Midnight Riders" est nommé en hommage aux deux révolutionnaires américains qui prévinrent pendant la nuit l'armée américaine de l'avancée de l'armée britannique au cours de la révolution américaine. La tradition veut que plusieurs coups de tromblon – le fusil des révolutionnaires – soient tirés par des hommes en costume d'époque après chaque but des Revs.

2) Le contingent francais augmente avec l'arrivee de Domi and Dabo.
