 En attendant le coup d’envoi de la saison 2011 de MLS le 15 mars prochain, MLS News.fr vous présente les 18 franchises du championnat. Les grands joueurs Le Galaxy est sans doute la franchise à avoir vu passer le plus de stars. Qu’elles soient étrangères, comme les Mexicains Jorge Campos (1996–97), Carlos Hermosillo (1998–99) et Luis Hernandez (2000–2001), l’ancien capitaine de la Corée du Sud Hong Myung-Bo (2003–2004) et celui de l’Autriche Andreas Herzog (2004), le Guatémaltèque MVP 2002 Carlos Ruiz (2002–2005, 2008) ou l’ex-international portugais Abel Xavier (2007–2008). Ou bien américaines: Robin Fraser (1996–2000), Cobi Jones (1996–2007), Greg Vanney (1996–2001, 2008), Clint Mathis (1998–2000, 2007, 2010), Alexi Lalas (2001–2003), Chris Albright (2002–2008) ou Edson Buddle (2007–2010). Sans oublier les deux stars actuelles, Landon Donovan et David Beckham. Le palmarès Le Galaxy est le deuxième club le plus titré de MLS derrière DC United. Pourtant, les supporters des Galacticos ont dû attendre l’an 2000 pour célébrer un premier titre. Mais pas n’importe lequel: une Ligue des champions de la CONCACAF. Un titre suivi d’une Open Cup (2001), d’un titre de champion (2002) et d’un doublé Coupe-championnat en 2005. Ironie du sort, malgré l’arrivée de la superstar David Beckham en 2007, LA n’a plus rien gagné depuis, malgré une finale en 2009 et une demi-finale la saison passée. 2011 sera-t-elle enfin la saison des Galaxy ? Bon à savoir... La mascotte du club, Cozmo, est une grenouille de l’espace. Pour s’afficher comme premier sponsor maillot de l’histoire du club, la firme alimentaire Herbalife a lâché 5 millions de dollars en 2007. Le deal prend fin en 2012.
